This world is temporary and fleeting; our lives, possessions, families, and homes will inevitably come to an end. However, with Allah SWT are the everlasting treasures of the Hereafter.
Consider this: Do you wish to live solely for the present world, or would you prefer to utilize it as a means to attain Paradise?
Free yourself from worldly attachments. If you seek eternal wealth, dedicate it in the path of Allah. If eternal youth is your desire, invest it in Allah’s cause. Whatever you give in Allah’s way, that will remain.
When Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded the believers to go on the Expedition of Tabuk to fight the Romans, everyone was required to go. The journey was not easy. The weather was hot, provisions were few and the distance was long. Some of the Muslims were reluctant to go on this expedition. In this context, Allah SWT addresses the believers:
O you who have believed, what is [the matter] with you that, when you are told to go forth in the cause of Allāh, you adhere heavily to the earth? Are you satisfied with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But what is the enjoyment of worldly life compared to the Hereafter except a [very] little.
One who possesses a sound intellect will never prefer this world over the Hereafter. This life is short and filled with problems. In terms of quality and time, it is nothing compared to the hereafter. In contrast, the enjoyment of the hereafter is filled with eternal happiness. Our focus in this life should be the Hereafter.
In times of difficulty, are we willing to sacrifice worldly comforts for the deen? Or do we only serve the deen when circumstances are easy and beneficial?
